Overview

Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation required a new and more modern website to support their future fundraising campaigns.

This was to replace the previous site they had built in 2016, which suffered from several design inconsistencies and very poor page-load performance.

Objective

By considering the needs of the target audience the goal of the redesign was to make it easier for visitors to take the next step towards becoming a donor

Improve the User Experience, focusing on better performance, clearer call-to-actions, more consistent implementation of branding and improving accessibility.

Build better tools to allow staff to better create and support fundraising campaigns and receive donations.

Solution

New WordPress installation to ensure no outdated content resides in the site’s database.

Bespoke WordPress theme with a design in line with other CHFF branding with custom blocks create for WordPress’ Gutenberg page editor.

Mobile friendly design to provide an improved experience for users on smartphone and tablet devices, which was a majority of the sites visitors in 2021.

Improving usability and accessibly informed by the information discovered during the discovery phase of the project, with particular focus on Typography and Colour contrast.

Front End performance improvements focusing on the reduction of external assets to improve page load speed.

Optimisation of image assets to reduce load times.

Better Media Management capabilities to allow more efficient usage of the media library and organisation of the uploaded assets.

Migration of existing content to suit new page builder and information architecture.

Website documentation for staff tasked with managing the website, outlining the new sites operation and functionality.

Outcomes

The new site made significant improvements to page load times. These times reduced in most cases by over 6 seconds.

More consistent branding, which drew on the organisations Style Guide, whiles also drawing on elements present in other international partner websites, to provide a consistent design feel across all Hamlin Fistula entities.

Increased donations through Donation and Fundraising campaign landing pages due to the improved page creation tools provided to staff.
